'They were heartless for robbing, taking my father's savings'

SUNGAI PETANI: The daughter of a murdered retiree, who who was allegedly thrown into Sungai Padang Terap could not believe the perpetrators robbed her father's savings to gamble.

Suraiya Izzati, 29 said her father Sabari Baharom, 62, was planning to perform the haj with his savings.

She said her father had saved enough money for the pilgrimage and was only awaiting for the call from Tabung Haji.

"I never thought the suspect would be so heartless as to rob my father's savings just for gambling.

"The act is excessive and cruel, without the slightest bit of compassion," she said when contacted.

Sabari's disappearance grabbed headlines after his Proton Waja was found burnt at a rubbish disposal site in the Gubir Forest ravine in Sik, Kedah. However, the victim was not at the scene.

Family members suspected that Sabari had been abducted by unknown individuals as there were several money transfers from his Tabung Haji account to another person's account within two days of his disappearance.

Two men aged 26 and 38 have been arrested on Friday. Kedah police chief Datuk Fisol Salleh had said yesterday that Sabari had allegedly been bound and thrown into Sungai Padang Terap in Kampung Empa, Wang Tepus, Jitra.

Suraiya described the suspect as immoral for being willing to kill her innocent father just to cover up his criminal act.

"My father worked hard to save money for his pilgrimage, but the suspect was willing to use that money for other purposes."

She said the family is leaving the investigation to the police and hoped the suspect would be given a fitting punishment.

"Even though my father's body has not yet been found, I accept the situation and will continue to pray that his remains are found soon," she said.
