MAIJ to assist in bringing home comatose patient from Madinah

JOHOR BARU: The Johor Islamic Religious Council (MAIJ) will assist in the process of bringing home a Felda Maokil 1 settler from Labis, who is currently in a medical centre in Madinah.

Johor Islamic Affairs Committee chairman, Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid, said that a representative from MAIJ visited the patient's family yesterday to gather relevant information.

He said that MAIJ has been informed that the family has received a public donation to cover some of the costs associated with bringing home the patient, Md Hussin Parawangai, 68, who is at the medical centre in Madinah.

According to him, MAIJ is prepared to cover any shortfall in funding to facilitate the family's efforts.

"They have honestly said that they have received public donations to finance part of the costs but still require funds to cover the remaining expenses.

"MAIJ will provide assistance after obtaining complete information," he said when contacted.

The day before yesterday, it was reported that a housewife was heartbroken over the fate of her husband, who is currently in a coma at the Madinah Cardiaz Centre in Al Jamiah.

Since then, video calls have been the only comfort for Jannariah Kimun, 62, as bringing her husband home is not easy and involves high costs.

Md Hussin was supposed to return home on July 27 after performing umrah in the holy land with his three sisters.

Unfortunately, four days before the return flight, he collapsed and was confirmed to have suffered a heart attack in the lobby of a hotel in Madinah.

Their two daughters, Noriza, 39, and Norain, 38, rushed to Madinah upon receiving news about their father's condition, hoping for an improvement that would allow them to bring him home.

However, the two daughters also returned home after a month of caring for Md Hussin.

Among the challenges faced was financial, as the cost of bringing him home is estimated to be between RM51,000 and RM67,000, given that one of the conditions is that the patient must be accompanied by a medical officer and provided with an oxygen cylinder.
