ALOR STAR: The number of flood evacuees in Kedah nearly doubled overnight as flooding worsened, with over 2,500 individuals across five districts seeking shelter at 8am today.
The Kedah Disaster Management Committee Secretariat reported that 2,505 evacuees from 907 families are now staying in 21 flood relief centres (PPS) this morning.
This marks a sharp rise from the 1,419 evacuees from 447 households in 18 PPS at 8pm yesterday.
Kubang Pasu is the worst affected, with 813 evacuees from 311 families taking refuge in six PPS, up from 559 evacuees from 195 families yesterday.
Kota Setar follows with 716 evacuees from 219 families in five PPS, compared to 597 from 182 families yesterday.
In Baling, the number has surged to 327 evacuees from 175 families in five centres, a sharp increase from just 23 individuals from 11 families yesterday.
Pendang has seen a slight increase, with 281 evacuees from 72 families in two PPS, up from 240 evacuees from 59 families yesterday.
In Pokok Sena, 368 evacuees from 130 families are currently sheltering in three centres.
The Drainage and Irrigation Department's Public Infobanjir website also shows that eight rivers across four districts—Kota Setar, Pendang, Kubang Pasu, and Padang Terap—have breached danger levels, with water levels continuing to rise.
