KLUANG: A Honda Civic was severely damaged, and its driver sustained minor injuries after colliding with an elephant that was crossing the road around 7pm yesterday on Jalan Felda Kahang Barat.
Kluang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh said that the driver, 39-year-old Haslinda Hasbullah, experienced chest pain and sought treatment at Hospital Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom shortly after the accident.
"At 11.06pm last night, the driver filed a police report saying she was involved in an accident with an elephant," Bahrin said.
"Initial investigations revealed that while driving from Kahang to Taman Seri Impian, a herd of elephants suddenly appeared in the middle of the road as she was descending a hill.
Due to the proximity and darkness, she hit an elephant's left foot," he said.
He added that the accident occurred on a hilly, dark road without streetlights, and the herd dispersed from the area after the collision.
