[UPDATED] Syed Saddiq suffers minor injuries at Ironman event in Langkawi

LANGKAWI: Muar member of Parliament Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman sustained minor injuries when the bicycle he was riding overturned after hitting the branch of a fallen tree while participating in Ironman Malaysia here today.

The former Youth and Sports minister, 31, was reported to be competing in the cycling discipline of the event when he met with the accident, which is believed to have occurred between 11 am and noon.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Shariman Ashari, when contacted, confirmed the accident.

"As of now, there has been no report on how the accident occurred and the extent of the injuries he (Syed Saddiq) sustained.

"It was only informed that he was still cycling towards the final checkpoint (when he met with the accident)," Shariman said.

It was previously reported that Syed Saddiq was among the names listed as participants in this year's Ironman Malaysia.

Ironman Malaysia involves three disciplines: swimming for 3.8km, cycling for 180 km, and running for 42.2 km."
