SILC fire claims third victim

ISKANDAR PUTERI: A surviving victim of the Southern Industrial and Logistics Clusters (SILC) fire died at 12.50am today.

The Bangladeshi worker, in his 20s, succumbed to severe burn injuries sustained when a fire broke out on Oct 10, engulfing four factory complexes.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Kumarasan confirmed that the inferno claimed three victims, all of whom suffered first-degree burns.

They died at Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor Baru, where they were treated in the burn intensive care unit.

Earlier, two other Bangladeshi workers died on Oct 11 and 12.

The Johor Fire and Rescue Department is still investigating the cause of the fire, which damaged four factory lots within the 1,300-acre industrial site, which consists of 85 factory lots along Jalan Kemajuan SILC.

The blaze started at 11.30am at one of the factories and spread rapidly due to combustible materials, including highly flammable Methyl Ethyl Ketone (thinner).
