Black soot stains cars near SILC industrial area

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Several residents of Taman Nusantara Nusa Perintis found their vehicles coated in thick smoke residue after a fire broke out at four factory lots in the Southern Industrial Logistics Clusters (SILC), here today.

The housing estate is 3km away from the industrial factory lots.

People took to their resident's Facebook group page and shared photos of cars coated in black soot.

Earlier, a fire broke out at the SILC industrial area at 11.30am. Three Bangladeshi workers suffered first-degree burns, while four factory lots were severely damaged due to the presence of combustible materials, including highly flammable Methyl Ethyl Ketone.

The fire sent plumes of smoke billowing over nearby neighbourhoods.

Facebook user Dee Comel posted that his white car became dirtier after it rained, and water mixed with the smoke coated the car in a grimy residue.

Another resident claimed the rainwater turned black as it ran off the cars, leaving a thick, hard-to-clean residue.

Some vehicle owners expressed concerns about potential long-term damage caused by the chemical-laden smoke, especially to the paint and external surfaces of their cars.

Others asked if they could be reimbursed by the factory owners for damage to their vehicles' decals.
