Injured Gunung Tahan hiker dies after falling tree strikes her tent while sleeping

JERANTUT: The 49-year-old hiker, who was seriously injured after a tree fell on her tent at the Seputih campsite in Taman Negara, near Kuala Tahan today, has died.

District police chief Superintendent Zukri Muhammad said Wan Nurulhuda Mior Abdullah was airlifted by a Royal Malaysian Air Force(RMAF) helicopter and landed at the Kuantan air base at about 8.55pm.

"The victim was pronounced dead by a RMAF medical officer who was part of the rescue team.

"Her remains have been taken to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital in Kuantan," he said in a text message to the media.

Earlier it was reported, Wan Nurulhuda was seriously injured when a tree fell on her tent resulting in injuries due to the impact of the falling tree.

Late today evening, Zikri said a rescue mission using both air and ground methods was launched to aid the female hiker who had climbed Gunung Tahan on Oct 7.
