ALOR STAR: State-owned Syarikat Air Darul Aman Sdn Bhd (Sada) has mapped out short-, medium-, and long-term strategies to tackle the persistent water supply issues in Kampung Kubang Lintah.
State Public Works, Natural Resources, Water Supply, and Environmental Committee chairman, Mohamad Yusoff @ Munir Zakaria, identified the area's geography as the primary challenge.
He explained that Kampung Kubang Lintah's elevated terrain and location at the end of the distribution network make water delivery problematic.
"This village and its surroundings receive water from the Bukit Mengkuang Tank through the Pelubang Water Treatment Plant.
"In recent times, Kampung Kubang Lintah has experienced unstable water supply. There are six registered accounts affected by these disruptions.
"Because of its location, the village receives water at low pressure and often only late at night," he told the New Straits Times.
Yusoff said residents have resorted to using well water during shortages, but the rainy season has worsened the issue, leaving the wells murky.
He said Sada has introduced immediate relief measures in response, including deploying water tankers to the affected areas and redistributing available supply.
"As a medium-term measure, a project involving the installation of 400 metres of new piping is underway to improve water pressure.
"The long-term plan includes building a tower tank and upgrading the Padang Perahu pump station," he added.
Yusoff assured that the phased measures would gradually stabilise the water supply and eventually resolve the disruptions.
On Saturday, it was reported that residents in Kampung Kubang Lintah had resorted to digging wells to meet their daily needs as water shortages persisted.
