KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) said 11 major roads in the city centre were affected by flash floods following incessant rain since 8.30am today (Oct 15).
DBKL said the continuous downpour, which saw more than 60mm of rainfall in an hour, led to the river level rising at Sungai Batu, Sungai Klang dan Sungai Gombak.
Readings from the Pusat Bandar weather station meanwhile showed over 114mm of rainfall per hour.
The 11 areas affected by flash floods were:
1. Jalan Pantai Baharu
2. Jalan Parlimen (Bulatan Dato' Onn) and Jalan Kinabalu
3. Jalan Maharajalela
4. Jalan Travers
5. Jalan Damansara (under the Semantan overpass)
6. Jalan Ledang
7. Jalan Segambut
8. Jalan Genting Klang (in front of the Shell station)
9. Jalan Genting Klang (in front of UTAR)
10. Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah
11. Jalan Sultan (Petaling Street)
It added that rainfall reached over 114mm per hour based on readings taken from the Pusat Bandar weather station.
"DBKL personnel are on the ground to ensure the situation at these affected remains under control.
"The work carried out by them includes traffic dispersal. As of 10.45am, all major routes in the city centre have been opened except Jalan Rahmat which has been closed in one direction," it said, adding that they have also activated two static pumps along Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah to draw out stagnant water there.
On several locations around the Dato Onn Roundabout which were flooded, it said three portable pumps have been deployed to reduce floods there.
"The situation went back to normal around 9.18am.
"Cleaning work has also been completed along Jalan Parlimen while work is ongoing at Jalan Sultan," the statement read, adding that in the majority of areas affected, proactive remedying works resulted in water levels decreasing in about 30 minutes.
