Home Ministry open to hiring veterans for new border enforcement agency

KUALA LUMPUR: The Home Ministry is open to the proposal of hiring veterans for the Malaysian Checkpoints and Border Agency (MCBA).

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said this would especially be for those who have expertise in certain areas, including information technology and border security.

He said he would leave the matter to the public service recruitment process.

"I am open to this proposal; in fact, from the perspective of ideal strength, the total should be 13,420.

"We understand that the government faces constraints in creating new positions. There are former soldiers with expertise in areas like IT and border control. I am open (to hiring them) not only to permanent positions but also to contract positions, for example.

"I will leave this to the public service recruitment process. The proposal is good, and there is room for us to consider it," he told the Dewan Rakyat.

Saifuddin Nasution was responding to an additional question from Datuk Khlir Mohd Nor (PN-Ketereh) on whether the government would hire veterans for MCBA.
