'Dad was supposed to meet us today', says tiger attack victim child

KUALA KRAI: "Dad was supposed to come home and see us today, but instead, he returned lifeless," said Nur Nazirah Adnan, 29.

Nur Nazirah is the daughter of Adnan Ismail, 54, who was the victim of a tiger attack at kilometre 79.2, East-West Highway (JRTB) Gerik-Jeli, in the forested area near Bersia, yesterday morning.

She said that before the tragic incident, her father had informed her that he would return home today to deliver her younger sibling's school money and change a tyre on his car.

"However, at 6am yesterday, I received a call from a cousin informing me that my father had been attacked by a wild animal (tiger).

"I was also told that the attack had caused severe injuries to my father's chest and face, as well as the loss of his left leg," she said when met at her home in Kampung Ngangoh today.

Recounting the incident, the second eldest of ten siblings said that before the attack, her stepmother, Mok Su, who worked as a cook at the nearby workers' quarters in the forest area, had gone outside to perform ablution (wudu).

"After Mok Su had finished her ablution and re-entered the quarters, my father went out to take his wudu, but only a few moments later, she heard the sound of the wild animal biting him.

"I was informed that my father was attacked from behind, causing severe injuries to his head and neck, and he was dragged several metres before his body was found.

"My father's body is now at Taiping Hospital, Perak, for an autopsy and is expected to arrive at 10 pm tonight for burial at the Kampung Kenor Muslim Cemetery," she said.

Yesterday, media reports revealed that a man had been attacked by a wild animal in the forested area near Bersia, and his body was found at noon, about 100 metres from the workers' quarters.

Perak Police Chief, Datuk Azizi Mat Aris, said the incident is believed to have occurred between 5 and 6 am when the victim had gone to the toilet at the location of the attack.
