Wife hears odd noises but no cries for help during tiger attack

TAIPING: Only strange noises and sound of falling objects were heard, but no cries for help was heard by tiger attack victim's second wife Saina Binsa-i, during the attack near Bersia in Gerik yesterday.

The 54-year-old, who is a Thai national, said the incident happened very quickly, when she was preparing to perform the 'sunat' prayer at around 5am.

She said she saw her husband, Adnan Ismail, 54, walk out of their Kongsi house, and thought he was going to the toilet.

"Then suddenly I heard a noise like 'kiuk' followed by something falling and immediately went to the door to check on him. I called out his name but he was nowhere to be seen.

"I called out ' abang' several times, but there was no answer... there was really no other sound after that. It was only later when it got brighter, the other workers found him. They told me that my husband had been attacked by a tiger," she said when met at the Taiping Hospital mortuary.

She added that she only saw the tiger's footprint and some blood stains not too far from the Kongsi after that.

The woman, who works as a cook at the project site in the forest, said the victim worked as a crane driver and had just moved into the Kongsi about a month ago.

She also added that prior to the incident, Adnan intended to visit his children back in Kampung Kenor, Kuala Krai on Monday but could not do so because of work.

"We have to wait for it to rain, that's when he can go back. Otherwise we are required to work.

"He said he wanted to go see his first wife and their 10 children because he had some extra money to spend on them," she said, adding that Adnan's body was buried at Kampung Kenor, Kuala Krai, after the autopsy.
