KUANTAN: Pahang entered its fifth day of floods today with the number of victims in Temerloh, the only affected district, continuing to record an increase.
As of noon, the number of flood victims in Temerloh rose to 1,803 from 544 families, compared to 1,639 yesterday.
According to the Welfare Department's InfoBencana application, nine relief centres were operating in the district, with two, namely SMK Bukit Cermin and Kampung Gantok, having been opened yesterday.
However, Mentakab assemblyman Woo Chee Wan said floodwaters were beginning to recede in most areas, including Mentakab town, though it may take some time to fully go down.
"The past two days recorded hot weather and the floodwaters are showing a downward trend. We hope the situation improves soon.
"Floods in Mentakab are largely triggered by water flowing down from upriver towards Sungai Semantan here," he said.
Several business premises, including the Mentakab wet market, were closed today after water inundated several parts of the town centre.
