Tiger mauls another man to death, 3km from Tuesday's attack

JELI: A Myanmar man was mauled to death by a tiger at his workers' quarters at Batu 18 on the Jeli-Gerik East-West highway.

The incident occurred barely three days after another man was attacked by a tiger in Gerik, Perak, on Tuesday.

The location of the Gerik tiger attack is approximately three kilometres from the latest incident.

Jeli police chief, Superintendent Saari Yaacob, said the 34-year-old Myanmar national had gone missing the previous night, and his body was found this morning.

"The Jeli police received a report about the incident from the victim's friend around 10.40am today.

"In the report, the man stated that the victim, who had gone missing at about 8.30pm the previous night, was found dead near the highway.

"The friend also claimed that before the victim disappeared, he had heard a tiger's roar behind their workers' quarters," he said in a statement.

Saari said a police team, along with several rangers from the state Wildlife Department, rushed to the scene to investigate the case.

"The man's body was found about 300 metres from his workers' quarters, with his left thigh severed and serious injuries all over his body," he added.

He said police have classified the case as sudden death. The body was sent to Jeli Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

It is believed that the tiger which mauled the victim could be the same one that attacked a 54-year-old man in Gerik on Tuesday.

The victim, Adnan Ismail, was attacked by a wild animal in the forested area near Bersia, and his body was found at noon, about 100 metres from the workers' quarters.

Perak police chief, Datuk Azizi Mat Aris, said the incident is believed to have occurred between 5 and 6 am when the victim had gone to the toilet at the location of the attack.

His body was buried in his hometown in Kuala Krai around midnight last night.
