Unfit for consumption: Over 25,000kg of imported beef disposed of

KOTA KINABALU: A total of 1,840 cartons of imported beef neck bones, weighing 25,993.34kg, have been disposed of at the Kayu Madang landfill in Telipok.

Jetsin Sdn Bhd, the importer and distributor of halal frozen food, called the incident unfortunate in a Facebook post.

Its managing director Datuk Koh Chung Jade said that they publicly declared the incident on their Facebook post to alert people.

Stressing on the company's commitment to transparency, he said: "Despite potential backlash, we felt it necessary to inform the public."

"The meat was disposed of and buried at the Kayu Madang landfill by Kota Kinabalu City Hall (KKCH). However, we cannot guarantee that no one will attempt to retrieve it, so we advise caution when purchasing similar products sold at unusually low prices," he said when contacted.

The company said that the disposal was prompted by a container malfunction that rendered the products unsafe upon arrival at the warehouse, which was at 18.9 degrees Celsius.

"We acted immediately to ensure safety," he said, expressing gratitude to KKCH for facilitating the disposal process.

They also thanked the surveyor and the Sabah Department of Veterinary Services for their inspection and reporting, as well as the local community in Kayu Madang for their assistance in clearing the disposal.

"At Jetsin, we are committed to upholding the highest standards of quality and halal integrity,"

"We take swift action when issues arise to ensure the safety and quality of our products. Our loyal customers can rest assured that we have addressed this matter promptly and transparently."

The company expressed appreciation to its supporters and pledged to continue delivering quality products across its range of frozen foods.

NST has reached out to KKCH for further clarification on the disposal.
