KK park reopened after otter attack in September

KOTA KINABALU: Perdana Park in Tanjung Aru, which was closed after several visitors were attacked by otters last month, has been reopened.

Mayor, Datuk Seri Sabin Samitah said the decision to reopen the park was made after the Sabah Wildlife Department confirmed that the otters do not pose any health risks to the public.

"Initially, we were worried that the otters might carry diseases and could spread them through bites, but this is not the case," he told a press conference.

Last month, several parkgoers were attacked by a family of otters. One jogger was seriously injured in the attack.

"The otters are now in an area that does not endanger the public. We advise visitors not to disturb the otters," he said, adding warning signs have been placed in the area.

Separately, Sabin said authorities were intensifying monitoring efforts after recent crocodile sightings in the city.

Sabin said there was no need for the public to panic and that the authorities were taking measures to address the issue.
