IPOH: People planning to travel to Cameron Highlands from the Simpang Pulai area have been told to use alternative routes due to slope failures along Jalan Simpang Pulai headed to Blue Valley.
In a Facebook post today, the Kinta District Public Works Department announced that the route will be closed entirely starting at 5pm today, until conditions are deemed safe.
"The route will be closed completely effective 5pm on Oct 25, 2024, until it is safe. Please follow the instructions of on-duty flag controllers," the post said.
The post also advised travelers to use an alternative route via Jalan Tapah-Cameron Highlands, also known as Federal Route FT059.
On Oct 11, Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan visited the site and announced a RM122 million slope repair project following a landslide with an estimated depth of 250m and length of 600m.
Ahmad had said the area had been identified early as a high-risk location in the slope hazard and risk mapping document.
"The RM122 million slope repair work, which began on July 1, 2022, is expected to be completed by December 2025. As of Sept 25, physical progress has reached 33.31 per cent.
"The scope of work in this project includes land surveying, soil investigation, slope stabilisation with a contiguous bored pile wall and anchors, and the use of rockfill technology imported from India," he had said.
