IPOH: Clearing work for a slope failure at Km43.4 of Jalan Simpang Pulai-Cameron Highlands has encountered delays due to heavy rain and challenging on-site conditions.
Perak Public Works Department director Zamri Abu Kasim said the work, which began last Friday, is about 10 per cent completed.
"The cleanup is hindered by limited space for dumping soil and rock debris, making the removal process difficult to manage effectively.
"The team, equipped with three excavators and four trucks, is proceeding cautiously as there is still land movement in the affected area," he said when contacted by the New Straits Times.
For safety reasons, Zamri added that clearing operations will be paused if significant ground movement is detected.
"The entire cleanup is expected to take around three weeks, though this timeline heavily depends on weather conditions.
"Given the current limitations, the road is estimated to reopen by Nov 25. However, this date may shift based on on-site developments and safety assessments."
He added that the department remains committed to ensuring a safe and thorough clearance, prioritising the stability of the affected area as work continues.
It was reported on Oct 25 that people planning to travel to Cameron Highlands from the Simpang Pulai area have been advised to use alternative routes due to slope failures along Jalan Simpang Pulai toward Blue Valley.
In a Facebook post, the Kinta District PWD advised travelers to take the alternative route via Jalan Tapah-Cameron Highlands, also known as Federal Route FT059.
