KUALA LUMPUR: The Selangor Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) together with the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais ), conducted a raid on a chicken slaughterhouse in Puchong last night for multiple offences, including breaches of the Malaysian Halal Certification Procedure Manual.
Selangor KPDN director Mohd Zuhairi Mat Radey said the Op Kita Gempur operation, which began at 8pm, was launched following public complaints about the slaughterhouse.
The inspection revealed various violations, such as the slaughter of chickens outside the permitted premises (a repeated offence), major non-compliance, the absence of a halal inspector for the slaughter process, and poor manufacturing practices (hygiene issues).
"In addition, we found other offences such as the use of four uncertified weighing scales and the unauthorised use of 13 subsidised liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders for commercial purposes," he told reporters following the raid.
He added that KPDN has taken action against the premises under the Weights and Measures Act 1972 and the Supply Control Act 1961.
Regarding breaches of the Malaysian Halal Certification Procedure Manual, Zuhairi said the matter would be referred to the Selangor Halal Technical Committee Meeting to review the premises' halal certification eligibility.
"If the halal certification is revoked, the premises will no longer be allowed to use the halal logo for business purposes, and if they continue using the logo, action can be taken under the Trade Descriptions Act 2011," he said.
He urged the public to cooperate with enforcement authorities by providing information to help combat non-compliance among businesses, particularly in Selangor.-- BERNAMA
