GEORGE TOWN: A popular beachfront restaurant in Batu Ferringhi has been ordered to shut for 14 days and fined RM1,000 after an inspection by health officials found it to be dirty.
The check on the restaurant found cockroach droppings, ingredients that were poorly stored, dirty refrigerators and disorganised storage racks.
The restaurant's workers also did not receive their typhoid vaccinations nor did they undergo food handling training.
The restaurant, popular for its beachfront views and performances was among 14 eateries inspected in an operation yesterday.
Northeast Health Department Inspection and Legal Unit head Wan Mohamad Akhbar Wan Ali said in total four eateries were ordered shut down for various violations.
"A total of RM13,600 in fines were issued to all the premises inspected."
