KUALA LUMPUR: Diver Nur Dhabitah Sabri is wading into a new experience, competing in her first team event at the Malaysia Open at the National Aquatic Centre in Bukit Jalil, today.
The 25-year-old is enjoying the fresh challenge and hopes to wrap up 2024 on a high note.
"This is my first time in a team event, and it has been interesting and fun.
"I have just come back from a rest period, and it was great to be with my national teammates again," said Dhabitah.
Dhabitah teamed up with Pandelela Rinong, Gabriel Gilbert Daimdan and Enrique Maccartney Harold to clinch gold on the first day of competition.
Singapore's Ashlee Tan, Avvir Tham, Megan Yow and Ayden Ng finished second and Taiwan's Ze-Lin Li and Yu-Hsin Hsueh were third. Malaysia scored 340.20 points, Singapore, 273.80, and Taiwan, 171.65.
It was Dhabitah's first competition since the Paris Olympics in August where she placed 12th in the women's 3m springboard final.
"I had a bit of downtime after the Olympics, and am slowly getting back into diving. It feels good to return and end the year on a positive note, especially with Malaysia hosting this event," said Dhabitah.
Next up for Dhabitah are her signature events - the women's 3m synchro on Monday, followed by the 3m mixed synchro where she will partner Gabriel.
