KULIM: The body of a 41-year-old woman, reportedly swept away by strong currents from a water column at Sungai Sedim earlier today, has been recovered.
Kulim Hi-Tech Fire and Rescue Station chief Azmir Hassan confirmed that the body was spotted at 5.50pm, about a kilometre from where she was last seen.
"The victim was found by members of the public and the authorities along the riverbank at 5.50pm, near Lubuk Buluh, roughly a kilometre from where she was reported missing," he said in a statement today.
He added that the victim was confirmed dead and later handed over to the police for further action.
Earlier, it was reported that a Deepavali holiday outing for a family at Sungai Sedim took a tragic turn when the woman was swept away by strong currents from a water surge.
The victim, A. Kasthuri, had been enjoying a riverside picnic with her family when the sudden rush of water occurred.
