AMPANG: The authorities are placing concrete barriers to seal the area along Jalan Maju 1/14 Lembah Maju, Pandan Indah, where a landslide took place this morning.
Teratai assemblyman Yew Jia Haur said this is the second landslide to occur in the same location within just a month.
"A landslide occurred here on Oct 13. The Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) had just appointed a contractor who was supposed to start rectification work today.
"State Infrastructure and Agriculture committee chairman Izham Hashim had previously announced that work would be conducted to repair the slope. We were informed that DID was in the procurement process.
"The contractor had already been appointed and was supposed to start work today but unfortunately this landslide occurred," he told reporters today.
He said the landslide had damaged water pipes, causing a water disruption in the area.
"We have asked Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) to prepare six water tanks to help the 300 account holders experiencing water cuts following this incident.
"We have not been told how long the water disruption is expected to last," he said adding that Air Selangor would have more information on the matter.
He said based on their checks, the affected area had previously been sealed off.
"We believe some residents continued to park their vehicles in the vicinity," he said.
Yew said discussions are ongoing over aid for a motorist whose vehicle was damaged in the incident.
"Several suggestions have been made but we have not come to a final decision yet.
"This issue involves many technical matters so It is premature to announce anything at the moment, but aid will be given," he said.
Yew advised residents to refrain from parking their vehicles along the slopes by the river during the rainy season.
"The northeast monsoon has just begun and rainy weather is expected.
"Residents should refrain from parking along the slopes near the river to avoid any untoward incidents," he said.
