Tsunami warning siren test at two locations in Langkawi

LANGKAWI: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) conducted a test of the Malaysian Tsunami Early Warning System (SAATNM) siren at two locations on the island today.

MetMalaysia, in a statement today, said the siren testing was carried out at Telaga Harbour Park from 10am to noon.

"The same tests are to be conducted at Al-Istiqamah Mosque in Kuala Teriang from 2pm to 4pm.

"Residents in the surrounding areas are advised not to panic when they hear the siren, as it is only a test," the statement said.

According to the statement, MetMalaysia will provide updates if there are any changes.

Meanwhile, MetMalaysia also issued a thunderstorm and heavy rain warning across most of northern Peninsular Malaysia this morning.

Thunderstorms and heavy rains are forecast for several areas in Perlis, Kedah (Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar and Yan), and Penang (Southwest and Northeast).
