Teen driver injured in crash while dodging wrong-way truck on Pasir Gudang highway

JOHOR BARU: An 18-year-old driver was injured when his car veered off the road to avoid a truck travelling in the wrong direction of traffic on Km14 of the Pasir Gudang Expressway, here yesterday.

Seri Alam police chief Superintendent Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the teenager was in the right lane when he suddenly saw a truck heading towards him, in the 2am incident.

In an attempt to avoid the truck, the teenager swerved, lost control, and crashed onto the right shoulder of the highway.

"The driver sustained injuries to his forehead, right hand and right leg," Sohaimi said in a statement today.

The teenager received outpatient treatment at the Sultan Ismail Hospital for the injuries sustained.

Sohaimi said investigations are underway to establish the truck's registration plate number, and action will be taken under the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.
