PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia has officially extended an invitation to China to attend the Asean-Gulf Cooperation Council (Asean-GCC) Summit next year.
Unity government spokesperson Fahmi Fadzil said the matter was conveyed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the cabinet meeting today.
"During today's meeting, the prime minister informed about his recent visit to China. During his meeting with Prime Minister Li Qiang and President Xi Jinping, a lot of matters were discussed, and an invitation to the Asean-GCC Summit next year has also been extended," he told his weekly press conference today.
Fahmi further said; "This proves that Malaysia, as a sovereign nation, engages in trade with any country that wishes to trade with Malaysia and maintains friendships with any country that wants to befriend Malaysia."
Fahmi said Anwar also updated the cabinet about his upcoming visit to Egypt.
"Tomorrow, the prime minister will depart to Cairo for an official visit and meet President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
"On Nov 11, the prime minister will attend the extraordinary Arab-Islamic Summit in Riyadh, discussing the ongoing war crimes and atrocities committed by Israel against Palestine.
"After that, the prime minister will resume his visit to Egypt. He then will lead the Malaysian delegation to Peru for Apec (Economic Leaders' Meeting)."
After Peru, Fahmi said Anwar will attend the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
He said Anwar was invited to attend the summit following an invitation from G20 president, as the upcoming Asean chairman."
