Landspout leaves six houses in Pendang damaged

ALOR STAR: Six families in Pendang had a scare when their homes were struck by a landspout.

Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM) Pendang officer Yuslina Yusoff said two houses in Kampung Bukit Cepat and four houses in Kampung Kobah had their roofs ripped off during the 2.45pm incident.

"We have received reports that there was heavy rain and strong winds in Pendang area at about 2.45pm today.

"A team was dispatched to Kampung Bukit Cepat and Kampung Kobah following reports about a storm incident.

"It was confirmed that two houses in Kampung Bukit Cepat and four houses in Kampung Kobah were affected," she said in a statement.

However, Yuslina said no injury was reported in the incident.

Meanwhile, Mohd Hafizuddin Salim, 30, a victim in Kampung Bukit Cepat said the landspout incident had completely ripped off the roofs of his parents' home.

"It happened so fast. We were completely caught off guard. It was a horrifying experience, but we are grateful that no one was injured," he said when contacted.

He added that the storm also ripped away the roof of the living hall of his grandmother's house, located next to his parents' home.
