PENAMPANG: Four men were detained for driving under the influence along Jalan Kota Kinabalu- Penampang near SMK Bahang last night.
They were apprehended by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Penampang District Police Headquarters during an Op Mabuk operation held from 11pm to 4am.
District police chief Superintendent Sammy Newton said the men, aged between 20 and 40, failed the breathalyser test.
"Seventy vehicles were inspected, and four men were arrested for driving under the influence.
"The individuals were taken to the Penampang District Police Headquarters for investigation under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which covers driving under the influence above the legal limit," he said in a statement today.
Sammy said police issued 19 summonses for various offenses during the operation.
"In addition, 75 people were screened. The operation proceeded smoothly without any unwanted incident.
"This operation aims to ensure road users' safety and adherence to traffic laws," he added.
