SHAH ALAM: Selangor state exco Ng Sze Han has been appointed as the new Selangor DAP chairman, succeeding Gobind Singh Deo for the 2024-2027 term.
Ng, who is also the Selangor Investment, Trade, and Mobility Committee chairman and the Kinrara assemblyman, secured 1,086 votes in the party's state election today, placing third behind Puchong Member of Parliament Yeo Bee Yin, who received 1,180 votes, and Tiew Way Keng (1,155 votes).
Previously, Ng served as the state secretary in the last term.
A unanimous decision was reached after a brief meeting with the entire committee following the election of the top 15.
Speaking to reporters after the announcement, Ng expressed his appreciation for Gobind, acknowledging his significant contributions to Selangor DAP.
"We thank Gobind for his leadership over the past two terms. He contributed immensely to Selangor DAP. In recent elections, we won all seats at both the state and federal levels. He also managed to secure an additional exco position for DAP in the Selangor government," Ng said.
He added that any decision to co-opt members would be made later.
Co-opting refers to appointing an unelected representative to a position.

A total of 1,663 delegates had voted today in the election with 1,576 valid votes and 87 spoiled votes.
