Anwar to bring 'mandate of M'sians' to Arab-Islamic Summit over Israeli attacks

CAIRO: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he would bring the voice and mandate of the Malaysian people to the Arab-Islamic Summit in Riyadh, today, to discuss the ongoing atrocities by the Israeli regime against the people of Palestine and Lebanon.

The prime minister said the summit is also expected to reach a consensus among Islamic countries on resolving the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

He described the violence carried out by the Israeli regime as being seemingly uncontrolled, extreme, and aimed at wiping out the Muslim population there.

He also said there had never been any country in the world that violated the law but faced no consequences.

"Tomorrow (today), we will hold an emergency meeting of the Arab-Islamic nations in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. (Egyptian) President (Abdel Fattah) El-Sisi and I will attend, and we hope this summit will address the issue of the violence committed by the Zionist Israeli regime against the Palestinian people.

"We see that the Israeli regime seems to want to erase the Palestinian people from Gaza and is committing what can be described as genocide.

There has never been a country in the history of the world that has violated all rules and laws, killing children and women, committing atrocities by seizing land, and occupying as colonisers.

"InsyaAllah (God willing), tomorrow (today), I will bring the voices and mandate of the Malaysian people to the Arab-Islamic Summit to discuss the continuous attacks and atrocities of the Zionist Israeli regime against the people of Palestine and Lebanon.

"In fact, Malaysia has already tried to convey our views to our friends in the Arab and Islamic countries, known as the Global South or the South-South Coalition, urging for Israel to be expelled as a member of the United Nations (UN)," he said in a speech before over 1,500 staff and students of Al-Azhar University during a public lecture yesterday.

Also present during his lecture, titled "Standing Firm Together: A Vision for Muslims Through Empowering Technology, Social, and Economic Progress" were Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz.

A special flight carrying Anwar departed from Cairo International Airport, heading to Riyadh, at 7.17pm local time (1.17am in Malaysia).

He is scheduled to return to Cairo to continue several official programmes planned with the Malaysian and Egyptian delegations.
