KUALA LUMPUR: The building of a China-Malaysia Community with a shared future has reached a new level, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
In an exclusive interview with the People's Daily Online during his recent working visit to Shanghai, Anwar said Malaysia is ready to expand the exchange of expertise and skills with China in the fields of trade, investment, communication, digital economy, and education to strengthen cooperation.
"Malaysian and China community-building with a future has peaked in the past year.
"Malaysia-China cooperation is increasing comprehensively and strategically," he said, hoping that both countries would continue to create new opportunities.
In the context of Anwar's official visit to China in March last year, the leaders of the two countries reached an agreement to build a China-Malaysia community with a joint China-Malaysia future.
This development marks a new chapter in the history of bilateral relations.
Anwar is convinced that the construction of a China-Malaysia community with a shared future, based on mutual respect, has a clear meeting point with the concept of Madani Malaysia put forward by the Malaysian government.
In conjunction with 50 years of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia, Anwar said the relations between the two countries has maintained a good momentum of cooperation.
Anwar's visit to China this time was to attend the China International Import Expo (CIIE). Malaysia is one of the guest of honor countries invited to the expo.
Commenting on the expo, Anwar stated that involvement in CIIE provides an opportunity for Malaysian companies to penetrate the Chinese market.
He said the expo, not only showcased China's achievements, but also offered space and opportunities for companies from developing countries, including Malaysia, to promote their products, thus becoming a new platform to explore cooperation.
Touching on China's efforts to promote openness and pursue modernisation, Anwar welcomed its commitment, emphasising that China's achievements in realising development by maintaining its own identity and sharing the results with the world will bring new opportunities.
Asean also takes advantage of China's experience and strength, including in terms of new technology, digital and green energy, said Anwar, who described such a cooperation as helping both China and Asean countries.
Anwar said he would take advantage of Malaysia's role as Asean chairman in 2025 to strengthen Asean and China relations as well as to strengthen synergies with China, especially in the areas of trade and investment. — BERNAMA
