KUALA LUMPUR: Members of Parliament have expressed their condolences to the family of former Finance Minister Tun Daim Zainuddin, who died earlier this morning.
Opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin (PN-Larut) stood up after the question-and-answer session was over, and said Daim was a statesman that had contributed a lot to the country.
"I want to take this opportunity to convey my condolences to his family.
"He was the country's economic architect, until Malaysia was known as the 'Asian Tiger'.
"His contributions to religion, the people, and the nation were immense, especially during the country's financial crisis in 1998.
"He was a true warrior, and even until the end of his life, he continued to fight for a just and fair future for the country," he added.
Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Datuk Ramli Md Nor also conveyed his condolences.
"The meeting takes note of the announcement, condolences to Daim's family."
Earlier, Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching, conveyed her condolences to Daim's family before proceeding to answer questions in Dewan Rakyat.
"Before I answer the question, I would like this opportunity to express my condolences to the family of former finance minister Tun Daim who left us this morning."
