SUNGAI BULOH: Police say that a 10-year-old girl from Kuang, who is now in a coma, is not a victim of a hit-and-run accident.
District police chief Superintendent Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor said this was based on statements recorded from eyewitnesses.
"Our investigations showed that the child was on a bicycle. She fell when her trousers were caught in the bicycle chain.
"Witnesses stopped to help her," he said.
He said the witnesses' statements also tallied with police findings, where tears and oil residue were found on her trousers.
"She was on her way home from a sundry shop about 200m from a school at Jalan Stesen Kuang.
"She is now in a medically induced coma," he said, adding that the investigation paper has been handed over to the deputy public prosecutor for further instructions.
Media reports previously claimed that the girl was a victim of a hit-and-run on Nov 14.
One report said she was rushed to the hospital by her grandfather and underwent emergency brain surgery. Doctors said she suffered a brain haemorrhage.
The report also quoted a post from the school alumni's Facebook page, appealing for eyewitnesses to help identify the driver responsible.
