KUALA LUMPUR: Visitors who came to settle traffic summonses at the Madani government's second-anniversary event unexpectedly stumbled upon heavily discounted groceries at the Madani Rahmah Sale.
Security officer Firdaus Abdullah, 27, made the journey from Klang to the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, initially hoping to settle his traffic summonses. However, his eyes lit up when he spotted the affordable grocery deals.
"These prices are a real bargain compared with regular shops. A large pack of Milo, for instance – you'd normally pay RM20 elsewhere, but here it is just RM14," Firdaus said.
Firdaus praised the organisers' thoughtful approach to rationing packet cooking oil, ensuring fair distribution among shoppers.
"I am planning to bring my family back tomorrow when I have more free time," he said.
For seasoned grocery shoppers like housewife Tasha Emiliza, 34, from Petaling Jaya the event was one she could not pass up.
She said she had done her homework, learning about the sale through TikTok and radio announcements.
"Events like these make a real difference to families. They help us save money, especially with the rising cost of living.
"I came for the discount on traffic summonses, but didn't expect to find such great deals on everyday groceries," Tasha said.
Freelancer Suki Lim, 39, took advantage of her flexible work schedule to attend the event for the first time.
"I came to pay my traffic summonses. Frankly, I have never participated in such events before and now I am quite excited to be here today," she said.
Asked if she would return tomorrow, she said, "I am concerned that tomorrow might bring larger crowds, especially with the prime minister's planned visit, but I might pop back to see what happens."
Themed "Madani di Hati, Rakyat Disantuni", the programme will run from 9am to 6pm, offering a variety of services for the public from ministries, agencies and government departments.
In addition to service exhibitions by participating ministries, the event will feature various activities and attractive offers, including entrepreneur booths and the Madani Rahmah Sale.
