Ramlah, 86, to choose home over flood relief centre, again

RANTAU PANJANG: An 86-year-old woman, who went viral last year when she refused to move to a flood relief centre after her village was flooded, will do the same this monsoon season.

Ramlah Hussin said today she would not leave her home in Kampung Lubok Gong here even though flood waters are expected to hit her village soon.

The mother of 10 said: "It's not that I am afraid to leave my house, but I feel that I won't be comfortable there.

"Since I married my late husband at 15, I have never gone to a relief centre.

"Both of us usually took shelter at our son's house, which is located a few metres from my house.

"But since my husband Abdullah Dollah died 20 years ago, I either stay at home or go to my children's homes when floodwaters hit my village."

Ramlah, who has high-blood pressure, said she also did not want to burden her family, as she need to take medicine every day.

Ramlah, who has more than 20 grandchildren, said she was lucky that her son built a wooden bridge connecting her house to his son's home.
