RANTAU PANJANG: The mother of a 9-year-old girl who was found dead in her home in Kampung Gual To'Deh on Sunday, has also died.
The girl was confirmed dead after being found unconscious and lying face down in her home, which had been affected by flooding.
Her mother, Yusnieta Mohd Lawi, was discovered to have suddenly become immobile and was believed to have suffered a stroke.
Yusnieta, 40, died at Raja Perempuan Zainab Hospital II here at 6.30am.
Yusnieta was the mother of Nur Iezarra Abd Talib, 9, who died after she was found lying face down in her home in Kampung Gual To'Deh, which was affected by flooding, on Sunday.
Her sister-in-law, Norshazlina Jantan, 32, said Yusnieta's eldest son, Muhammad Denish Alfi Abd Talib, 14, informed the family via WhatsApp about his mother's passing.
She added that earlier, the body of her niece, Nur Iezarra, was buried in the Islamic Cemetery in Kampung Gual To'Deh after a post-mortem examination, and now they are waiting for Yusnieta's body to return for burial in the same location.
"Since she was brought to the hospital two days ago, our family has been in distress because we were informed that her condition was unstable after she was believed to have suffered a stroke.
"Only the late Yusnieta's husband, Abd Talib Abdullah, 42, and Muhammad Denish were at the hospital as the other family members were trapped by the floods.
"We couldn't get there until yesterday afternoon when the floodwaters on the main road started to recede. We visited her at the hospital.
"It breaks our hearts to lose two family members at once, and we are still in shock about what has happened. Moreover, the late Nur Iezarra was a very good child, as was Yusnieta, who always helped the family," she said.
Norshazlina mentioned that they are still confused by what has happened, but they know that Nur Iezarra had previously suffered from seizures, though not frequently, while Yusnieta had several chronic illnesses such as high blood pressure and diabetes.
"We are patient with this trial and pray that the children and husband remain strong in facing this challenge. Losing two loved ones at once is not an easy thing to bear.
"Alhamdulillah, the flood in our area is gradually receding, which will make it easier for us to bring the bodies back and proceed with the burial," she added.
