MELAKA: A Form Five student from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Ayer Molek tragically died after his motorcycle collided with a car on Jalan Tambak Paya-Ayer Molek last night.
The incident occurred around 9pm when 17-year-old Muhammad Faiz Amran, riding a Yamaha 135LC, died at the scene due to severe injuries, according to Buletin TV3.
Melaka Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit said that Muhammad was travelling from Tambak Paya towards Ayer Molek when the collision occurred.
A Proton Saga car, driven by a private sector employee, was coming from the opposite direction.
"Investigations revealed that upon reaching the accident site, the motorcyclist was believed to be overtaking another vehicle," Christopher said.
"While overtaking, the Proton Saga which was coming from the opposite direction failed to avoid and brake, resulting in a collision with the victim's motorcycle," he said.
"As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist sustained severe injuries to the head and body and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnels, while the driver of the car was not hurt," he said.
Christopher said the victim's body was taken to the Forensic Medicine Department of Melaka Hospital for examination, while the vehicles involved were sent to the Computerized Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom) for inspection.
"We are also reviewing CCTV footage from the accident site and have identified independent witnesses who saw the incident," he added.
The police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
