APM captures 50kg aggressive python in Gua Musang village

GUA MUSANG: A reticulated python weighing 50kg was captured by the Civil Defence Force in Kampung Baru Star yesterday.

Gua Musang Civil Defence Officer Mohd Hanafi Mohd Bokri said three of his personnel took 30 minutes to capture the four-metre-long snake.

He said the team was deployed to the village after receiving a complaint about the snake's presence at around 8pm.

"The operation was quite challenging as the snake was aggressive, possibly due to hunger," he said when contacted today.

Mohd Hanafi added that the python would be handed over to the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) for further action.

"I urge the public, particularly those living near forests or bushes, to remain vigilant, especially during the rainy season.

"There is a risk of venomous animals entering housing areas, which could lead to unwanted incidents," he said.

Meanwhile, Kampung Star resident Nur Anis Haitikah, 22, said the python was only about 100 metres from her home.

"This is the first time I have seen such a large python so close to our house, and I was very shocked by its size.

"We were worried it might enter the house and cause an unwanted incident," she said.
