Melaka co-curriculum centre introduces fishing therapy module

MELAKA: The Melaka Co-Curriculum Centre has introduced the 'Fish On' Fishing Therapy Module, the first of its kind in Malaysia, specifically designed for students with special educational needs.

State Education, Higher Education and Religious Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Rahmad Mariman said the establishment of the centre and introduction of the module reflect the commitment of the Melaka Education Department and the state government to inclusive special education needs.

"This initiative not only provides access to more responsive learning but also strengthens the students' potential in social, emotional and cognitive aspects through a holistic approach," he said in a statement here today.

The launch of the disabled-friendly Co-Curriculum Centre and the 'Fish On' Special Education Fishing Therapy Module took place at the Lanchang Merlimau Co-Curriculum Centre in Jasin yesterday.

The programme was organised by the Melaka Co-Curriculum Centre in collaboration with the SMK Malim's Integrated Special Education Programme and Melaka Education Department's Student Talent Development Unit.

Melaka education deputy director Karim Tumin, in the same statement, said the 'Fish On' module also supports the Secondary School Alternative Assessment, which incorporates fishing activities as an experiential learning medium.

"It is not merely a recreational activity but also helps build self-confidence, discipline and independent living skills among students," he said.
