KOTA BARU: The state Welfare Department will continue using the special "Kad PPS" (flood relief center card) to distribute aid to flood victims this year, an official said.
Kelantan's Acting Welfare Director, Md Yani Mat Zin, said the card was distributed to the heads of households who were evacuated to flood relief centres.
"We began distributing the cards to the flood victims who were first evacuated to the relief center last Friday," he said.
"Our welfare officers will give the card to the heads of families when they registered themselves at the relief centres."
Md Yani said the Welfare Department decided to introduce the card to make it easier for welfare officers to distribute a variety of consumer necessities to residents displaced by the floods.
"This is to ensure that flood victims receive the aid provided to them by the government," he said.
"We also want all flood victims to get access to supplies equally."
The department launched its own initiative last year by introducing the card. The introduction of the card was aimed at ensuring that food aid and other necessities were distributed equally to flood victims.
This initiative makes the Kelantan Welfare Department the first in the country to introduce such a card.
