Kedah floods worsening, over 500 people evacuated

ALOR STAR: The flood situation in Kedah worsened overnight, with 569 people from the Kubang Pasu and Sik districts being evacuated from their homes.

Kedah Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM) deputy director, Muhammad Suhaimi Mohd Zain, said a total of seven temporary flood relief centres (PPS) have been activated in both districts to provide shelter for the evacuees.

"In Kubang Pasu, 565 evacuees from 184 families are sheltering in six PPS, namely SMK Changlun, SMK Binjai, SK Felda Batu 8, SK Sultan Ahmad Tajuddin, Dewan PPK Lubuk Batu, and SK Malau.

"In Sik district, SK Kota Aur PPS has been activated to house 34 evacuees from 13 families," he said in a statement today.
