KUALA LUMPUR: The number of flood victims has risen to 37,189 involving 11,385 families as of 9.32am this morning.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim told the Dewan Rakyat today that the affected states are Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Perlis, Johor and Perak.
"A total of 322 temporary evacuation centres (PPS) have been activated across all six states so far.
"I would like to express my gratitude to the Deputy Prime Minister 1 (Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi), National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), and all the relevant teams, including the state governments, for their cooperation in ensuring better preparedness this year," he said.
Anwar said Kelantan has recorded the highest number of flood victims, with 30,582 people and 9,223 families affected.
He said a total of 157 PPS have been opened in Kelantan.
Anwar said Nadma, under Zahid had been instructed to enhance the coordination of federal and state agencies to ensure the safety and welfare of flood victims.
"Ensuring the safety and well-being of residents in affected areas remains the highest priority throughout the Northeast Monsoon period, which lasts until March 2025," he said.
