KUALA LUMPUR: Mercy Malaysia has launched emergency response efforts as severe flooding from the Northeast Monsoon impacts several states, working with local authorities and community leaders to deliver aid swiftly to those in need.
Mercy Malaysia, a non-governmental humanitarian organisation, is assisting following severe flooding caused by rain has dispalced thousands of people.
It is a voluntary, non-profit group that provides medical relief, disaster response, and humanitarian aid to communities in need, both within Malaysia and internationally.
The floods have worsened following heavy rain, displacing thousands of people across the affected areas.
The Northeast Monsoon occurs annually, affecting the east coast of Malaysia predominantly.
Mercy Malaysia said its teams have been deployed to Gua Musang in Kelantan to assess the severity of the flooding and its impact on local residents.
The response team will support and reinforce relief efforts to meet both immediate and ongoing needs, it said.
Mercy Malaysia President, Dato' Dr Ahmad Faizal Mohd Perdaus, said the team was deployed in response to the floods, with the organisation committed to working with local authorities to assist those affected.
"This disaster demands an immediate and unified response," he said in a statement.
More than 28,000 people have been evacuated due to floods natiowide this morning, a jump in numbers from the 25,000 evacuees recorded in the evening yesterday.
