KUALA KRAI: Nearly 5,000 residents across several villages, including Kampung Pasir Kelang, Kampung Sungai Taku, and Kampung Buyong, are cut off after ferry services were suspended due to rising river levels.
Boat driver Muhamad Daniel Rusli, 22, said that the river was a crucial route for residents living on the opposite bank to access the town of Kuala Krai.
While ferry services at Pasir Kelang have halted after the river reached dangerous levels, Muhamad Daniel remains committed to assisting residents in emergencies.
"I only provide ferry services during critical times, such as for pregnant women or sick individuals who need urgent medical attention," he said.
During the monsoon season, when river currents are strong, ferry boats are essential for residents to cross the river.
Stressing on the importance of safety, Muhamad Daniel said he remained vigilant and ensured passengers wear life jackets.
Typically, ferry services operate from 7am to 7pm, but in emergencies, he is prepared to assist residents.
"If the situation worsens or water levels rise further, I will seek help from the rescue team," he said.
He also said that four village roads had been submerged under three metres of water, forcing residents to rely on ferry boats to leave the affected area.
