KOTA BARU: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the army has been ordered to assist the Kelantan Education Department in conducting the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examination amid floods in the state.
Zahid said army personnel had been deployed to fetch students from the rural areas to exam halls when examinations begin on Dec 2.
"Seeing the flood situation in Kelantan, the government has come out with a solution to help the students who are scheduled to sit for the exam on Dec 2.
"I was informed that the education minister is on her way to Kelantan and will discuss this issue with the district education officers at flood-hit districts to arrange transportation to the examination centres.
"At the same time, l have urged the army to help school headmasters and teachers so that no student is left behind.
"The army is also ordered to assist students, particularly those from areas that are difficult to reach.
"I was informed that these students mostly live in Rantau Panjang and Tumpat, which are also the worst flood-affected districts," he said.
He was speaking after visiting flood victims at SK Tapang here today. Present were Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud and state police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat.
Zahid, who is also National Disaster Management Committee chairman, was given a briefing on the current flood situation in Kelantan by the state Drainage and Irrigation Department when he visited the Sultan's Pier here.
