Zahid orders flood relief tents to Kelantan, approves additional centres

KOTA BARU: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has directed the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) to immediately send tents from states unaffected by floods to Kelantan.

Zahid, who is also the National Disaster Management Committee chairman, said the tents were urgently needed at flood relief centres across the state.

"During my visit to Kelantan today, I was informed that many flood relief centres were facing a shortage of tents due to the rising number of evacuees.

"As a result, I have instructed Nadma to retrieve tents from warehouses in states that have not been affected by the floods and deliver them to Kelantan," he told reporters after visiting flood victims at SK Tapang here today.

Zahid said that Kelantan had registered 550 flood relief centres this year, with many already at full capacity.

Following his visit to SK Tapang, a relief centre, he also issued special approval for the establishment of additional relief centres.

"Given the overcrowding at the centres, I have authorised the opening of new ones, including at Mara Junior Science College and other locations," he said.

He also encouraged the media to support the government's efforts by providing real-time updates on the flood situation, which can be accessed throughhttps://infobencanajkmv2.jkm.gov.my
