PASIR MAS: A farmer in Kampung Apam Kepas Lati here is concerned that his deer enclosure could be submerged by floodwaters if the persistent rainfall, which has lasted for the past four days, continues.
Nik Hashim Nik Nordin, 51, said that a significant portion of the 0.4ha enclosure, which houses about 40 deer, is already flooded to a depth of half a metre.
He said the total value of the Timorensis, Axis and Nilgai deer in his enclosure is around RM100,000, and he has customers from across the country, including those who connected through social media.
"For now, I've built a platform made of wooden logs in one section of the enclosure to elevate the ground so that the deer can gather there," he told Bernama today.
Nik Hashim said that this was the first time his deer enclosure has been affected by flooding since he began the venture in 2015.
A Bernama check at the site found the animals gathered on the raised area of the enclosure, surrounded by a 2.5metre-high fence.
The road leading to Kampung Apam Kepas has also been inundated but remains accessible to four-wheel drive vehicles and rescue team trucks, which were spotted delivering supplies to residents.– Bernama
