ALOR STAR: Four roads in Kota Setar and ten others in Kubang Pasu remain temporarily closed following flooding in Kedah.
Kota Setar district police chief Assistant Commissioner Siti Nor Salawati Saad said the closures were implemented due to safety concerns for road users.
The affected roads are:
1. Jalan Lengkuas, Jalan Kampung Derang, and Batu 11 Jalan Pokok Sena
2. Jalan Gunung Keriang
3. Jalan Bukit Pinang – Lengkuas (for heavy vehicles only)
4. Bukit Pinang Tunnel
Two other roads are partially closed but accessible:
Jalan Kepala Batas – Hutan Kampung
Lebuhraya Darulaman from Alor Star (open for heavy vehicles only).
In Kubang Pasu, district police chief Superintendent Mohd Redzuan Salleh said ten roads are closed to all vehicles due to the floods.
They are:
1. Jalan Tanah Merah to Wang Tepus
2. Jalan Titi Besi to Kampung Pasir
3. Jalan Kelubi Luar to Kampung Malau
4. Jalan Jitra to Kampung Kelubi (tunnel)
5. Jalan Kepala Batas to Bukit Tinggi (for heavy vehicles only)
6. Jalan Kepala Batas to Bukit Tinggi
7. Jalan Batu 9 Jitra to Alor Rambal/Kepala Batu
8. Jalan Kepala Batas to Titi Besi
9. KM 32.1 to KM 33.2 of the North-South Expressway (Plus) southbound
10. KM 33.2 to KM 32.1 of the Plus Expressway northbound
Meanwhile, Redzuan said seven roads previously closed have since been reopened to all vehicles:
1. Jalan Kampung Natoi to Kampung Lembah/Kampung Bendang Dalam (for light vehicles only)
2. Jalan Pusat Pembiakan Ikan Jitra
3. Jalan Jitra to Sungai Korok
4. Jalan Jitra to Bukit Wang
5. Jalan Kampung Kubang Betong to Kampung Kangar
6. Jalan Asun to Binjal/Kampung Telok
7. Jalan Kampung Bata to Kota Giam
He urged road users to plan their journeys carefully to avoid unnecessary difficulties and traffic congestion.
"Road users are also reminded not to wade through floodwaters with strong currents for their safety and families," he said.
