ALOR STAR: The flood situation in Kedah is showing signs of improvement as more evacuees, who were seeking shelter at temporary relief centres, were allowed to return home.
As of 4pm today, the number of flood evacuees has dropped to 5,124 from 1,625 families, compared to 5,936 from 1,895 families at 8am the same day.
Four evacuation centres in Kota Setar and Kubang Pasu were closed after the flood situation in those districts improved, leaving 30 temporary centres still operating.
The Kedah Disaster Management Committee Secretariat reported that, of the total flood evacuees, 3,522 are still placed at 16 temporary flood evacuation centres in Kota Setar.
In Kubang Pasu, the number of evacuees has dropped to 191 from 58 families, compared to 340 evacuees from 108 families previously.
Pendang also registered a similar trend, with the number of flood evacuees dropping to 1,347 from 1,480 earlier today.
The number of evacuees in Pokok Sena has also seen a slight reduction, with 64 people from 26 families, compared to 67 people from 28 families earlier.
Meanwhile, the Public Infobanjir portal reports that Sungai Laka in Kubang Pasu is the only river currently above danger levels, with water levels continuing to rise as of 4pm.
